Meet Richard
A-Level economics tutor based near Marlborough
Hi, I'm Richard Clark.
I hold a BA and MSc in economics together with a PGCE. I previously taught economics in both state and independent schools, including at Westminster School, before spending more than 30 years applying economics in government, business and market research.
My aim is simple: to help students understand not only what happens in economics, but why it happens. I use clear explanations, current affairs and real-world examples to make difficult ideas easier to understand and apply in exams.
How tuition works
1️⃣ Free introductory conversation
We discuss the student’s current position, what they hope to achieve and whether my tuition is likely to be the right fit.
2️⃣ Identify strengths and gaps
The first lessons help establish what the student already understands and where additional support will make the greatest difference.
3️⃣ Tailored one-to-one lessons
Lessons are planned around the individual student, combining subject knowledge, real-world examples and exam technique.
4️⃣ Review progress
We regularly review what is working, where confidence is improving and which areas need further attention.

Yes. I teach students studying both AQA and Edexcel A-Level economics. Lessons are tailored to the student's exam board and focus on the knowledge, essay technique and evaluation skills required for success.

Yes. I work with students throughout both years of A-Level, whether they need ongoing support, help preparing for exams, or assistance with a particular topic.

Most lessons are delivered online using video conferencing and interactive teaching materials, allowing students to learn from anywhere in the UK. However, I also offer face-to-face tuition locally.

Most lessons are online, but I also offer face-to-face tuition for students based near Marlborough and elsewhere in Wiltshire.

One-to-one tuition is £60 per hour. A free introductory conversation is available to discuss your requirements before booking.

Most lessons last one hour, although longer revision sessions can be arranged if appropriate.

Many students have one lesson each week, although the right frequency depends on their goals, confidence and the time of year. This is something we can discuss during the introductory conversation.

Yes. Understanding economics is important, but so is knowing how to answer exam questions. Lessons include essay planning, evaluation, data response questions and examiner expectations where appropriate.

My tuition is designed to support and strengthen what students are already learning at school. I do not replace school teaching. I help students fill gaps, build confidence, practise exam technique and understand difficult topics more clearly.

Where helpful, I may suggest questions, essays or revision tasks between lessons to reinforce learning and prepare for future sessions.

Not necessarily, although many parents choose to join the free introductory conversation so that we can discuss the student’s goals and answer any questions.
